Protection is very important to a remodel
When planning to remodel any area of your home, whether a kitchen a closet or your master bath; it’s important to keep in mind the protection of surfaces or areas to remodel. It isn’t just covering floors with plastic or blankets. It’s ensuring that if there is a spill, the liquid will not seep into your carpet. If a heavy hammer falls to the floor, that it’s not going to crack your tile or dent your wood floor.
Adding protection funds to your budget could save you money in additional repairs if the right protection is not used. Depending on the areas getting remodeled and or protected, it is a simple list. Some of the times you’ll need are; Ram Board, painter’s plastic, blue, yellow tape and perhaps some corner protectors for entry ways and or furniture. The Blue Tape is to use on surfaces that will not peel or chip off with taping. Yellow tape (With a stronger glue) will adhere and it is harder to remove from surfaces sometimes chipping off paint from walls or finish from furniture. Yellow tape will usually tape over the blue tape to add strength.
The painter’s plastic will cover large areas mainly to keep dust and or paint mist from sticking to your furniture. A further addition to protection is the use of an Air Scruber. This will suck dust and other impurities from your home while blowing the dirty air outside of your home. This air scrubber uses a HEPA filter so there is minimal dirt and dust outside your home.
Protect your plants, trees, bushes and walkways
Protection is not limited to the inside of your home. If there is work happening outside, those areas must get protection as well. If you have pavers, textured or colored concrete on your grounds, the last thing you want to do is scrape dried up mud or concrete off of colored pavers. Don’t forget though, that bushes and plants will wilt under plastic if the temperature is too hot. Let them breathe.
Your contractor is always your best resource for these questions. When a licensed contractor submits a bid for your project, these items are part of the cost of the remodel.
